Sticky notes! That's the magic to simple masking. Let's take a look at my mountain row in progress, and I'll share the process, step-by-step:
- First, stamp the mountain towards the left side of a gray cardstock strip.
- Next, stamp the same image onto a sticky note. Stamp it high enough that part of the "sticky" will be on the back of the image. Fussy cut right along edges of image.
- Stick that image RIGHT ON TOP OF your first stamped image on the gray cardstock. (Now do you see the magic of the STICKY note?)
- Stamp another mountain overlapping the first one (the one covered in sticky note.) See how the sticky note is blocking - or MASKING - the places where the ink would overlap? MAGIC.
- Remove the sticky note mountain and cover the SECOND mountain, and repeat the process. Stamp again and then remove the sticky note until you've made the mountain row as long as you'd like.

I repeated the same process for the row of trees, using a sticky note to mask as I went along. This technique was pretty easy for this card because the images are pretty simple. Masking becomes more tricky with very intricate shapes - but with some patience, it can be such a gorgeous technique to create stamped floral bouquets, wreaths and more.
Once I completed my masked rows of mountains and trees, I trimmed them and layered them together along with some embossed stars and THE cutest little camper! This stamp set is called Simple Life and it was designed by Lindsay Ostrom for Impression Obsession.
Speaking of Impression Obsession, today is Old Is New day on the IO blog. It's the day that we showcase some of the older stamp sets in the shop - because although we love our NEW products - our oldies but goodies deserve all our love too! Stop by the IO blog to see a list of the designers participating, and check out what they've created for today.
