Look at These Layered Pineapples - Colored With Cardstock!

Hello friends! Today's handmade card idea is just for you if you don't like to color. (Spoiler alert: it's also just for you if you DO like to color.) We'll look at adding color to stamped images by layering cardstock to shade some adorable stamped pineapples. Are you ready?

Simply looking at this card might give you enough information to take this idea and run with it, but let's chat a little in case you're wondering what in the world I did. To try this technique, here's what you'll do:

  1. Stamp image on two shades of cardstock. Fussy cut one of the images.
  2. Then fussy cut PART of the second image. Think about what the shadow would look like and trim maybe a little less than half of the image.
  3. Line up the images and adhere together. BAM. Instant shading for your image.
For this project, I basically doubled the technique because I wanted two shades of a yellow pineapple AND two shades of a green leafy top. First, I paper-pieced one pineapple with one pineapple top. Then I fussy cut PART of the pineapple and PART of the leaves with the second shade of cardstock and layered them right on top where they lined up.

I love that this is a really loose and imprecise technique. There's not a right or wrong way to do it, and even when the trimming isn't perfect, it adds to the style. This style gives the images a color blocked modern art feeling with the flat layers of color. I'm really loving it and I want to try it again!
