Hey there crafty friends! One of my favorite card making trends are slimline cards. Have you seen them? Have you made them? Do you know what they are and what makes them fantastic? Let's take a look at a slimline card idea and I'll tell you all about it. Ready?

So What IS a Slimline Card?
A "normal" handmade card is 4.25x5.5 inches that fits in an invitation style envelope. It's a basic format and size that many of us have gotten used to. But a slimline card is like making a whole different thing - a slimline card measures 8.5x3.5 inches. It's tall and skinny - and the best part of this format is that it fits in a standard business envelope.
Everything about crafting a slimline card feels different in a fresh and fun way. Sentiments fit differently, and a layout that works with a standard card, feels totally different on a slimline card. You'll find different ways to interact with your stamps and sentiments. These cards can be great for making scenes (and don't forget, you can turn your slimline card longways too!) For today's card, I scattered these large polka dotted butterflies across my card - I'd never fit this many of them on a standard card, so this was a fun look!
Let's talk for a second about these butterflies. I used an FSJ Create-a-Palette ink pad to add color to my images. It's a blank ink pad that allows five different colors of re-inker to be added to it. I used shades of yellow, orange, and pink for my ombre butterflies. Then to add a little extra shine, I cleaned my stamp, and stamped right over the top of each butterfly with clear pigment ink, and added clear embossing powder. The clear heat embossing adds a shiny finish and brings out the brightness of the ink. A black embossed sentiment and black enamel dots finished off the card.
SO - what do you think? Will you try out a slimline card? I'd love to see what you create, and I'd love to chat with you about slimline cards, so be sure to leave a comment with your ideas and questions! Thanks so much for stopping by today!
