Then there's this crazy background. I'll be honest, I'm not even exactly sure what I did but I know it included liquid dye ink and lots of water, on a sheet of watercolor paper. I finished this card off with my favorite polka dotted washi tape.
To begin these three cards, die cut the image and sentiment from black cardstock. If you plan to make more than one card, go ahead and die cut a couple of each right from the start. Next, decide on your background. For a super quick and simple card, pick out a patterned paper, mat it on cardstock, and BOOM your card is almost done. Adhere the grads and sentiment with foam tape or adhesive, maybe add a few gems and you're ready to head out the door to a grad party.
If you have a little more time to play (or you have some fun scraps hanging around) consider making a gel press print, or experiment with some watercolor play.
I made the orange and pink background using the Gel Press. I applied drops of ink onto the Gel Press and just brayered it out slightly, so the colored splotches would blend together just a bit. It's such a fun effect. It works really well with colors that blend nicely together, like the pinks and yellows on this card.
I hope you'll take today's ideas and make them your very own. Start with a basic die and sentiment and add in your favorite patterned papers, or mixed media prints. You could even play with some watercolor or ink and combine your grad's favorite colors.
