Then there's this crazy background. I'll be honest, I'm not even exactly sure what I did but I know it included liquid dye ink and lots of water, on a sheet of watercolor paper. I finished this card off with my favorite polka dotted washi tape.
To begin these three cards, I die cut the image and sentiment three times from black cardstock. Then I began to play and try out some different backgrounds. For the first card, I simply added a starry patterned paper in the background, matted onto cardstock and a card base. I attached the graduate image with foam squares for a little POP and I added some glaze to the sentiment plus a few rhinestones.
For the next two, I used colorful scraps I had hanging around my desk. I love these projects because they allowed me to pull from random Gel Press prints, and watercolored sheets I had created on other days. It was fun to play around and choose the ones I liked best.
I made the background for this card using the Gel Press. I applied drops of ink onto the Gel Press and just brayered it out slightly, so the colored splotches would blend together just a bit. It's such a fun effect. It works really well with colors that blend nicely together, like the pinks and yellows on this card.
I hope you'll take today's ideas and make them your very own. Start with a basic die and sentiment and add in your favorite patterned papers, or mixed media prints. You could even play with some watercolor or ink and combine your grad's favorite colors.
Today's post is part of Impression Obsession's Die Cut Obsession Blog Hop. The design team is sharing die cutting magic today, and I hope you'll head over to the IO blog and find the list of participants! I can't wait to see what they've each created for today!
