Spread Your Wings: Die-Cut Butterfly Card with Lil' Inker Designs

Welcome to Day 2 of the Lil’ Inker Designs summer release blog hop! We’re celebrating with a three-day blog hop and there is so much inspiration to share!

The Cover Up Die: Butterfly is gorgeous for the most clean and simple cards, but it’s brimming with possibilities for fun techniques as well. We will be reaching for this die over and over again to try new ideas.

Today I’ll share two ways to use this die. To begin this first card, I grabbed a panel of watercolor paper I had recently played with. I had layered  blue, purple, and black watercolor on it, and left it to dry, not really having a plan for it. Today's project was the perfect use for it though! I die cut the butterfly cover up die from black cardstock and simply laid it on top of the watercolor sheet. BAM. I loved the way it looked, but I also wanted to really highlight the inside cut-outs of the butterfly more than the background. So, I die cut the butterfly again from vellum and I placed the two background shapes from vellum on top of my card. Notice how you see how you can still see the watercolor behind it, but it allows the butterfly to really POP.

A simple sentiment from the new Spread Your Wings stamp set was all this card needed to finish it off. (Isn’t that font gorgeous!?)

Now - remember that vellum butterfly I cut out? I already used the “negative” pieces around the butterfly but that left me with...the BUTTERFLY! Yay! For this card I trimmed the border completely off and even trimmed down the butterfly just a smidge. Then I adhered it to a pink panel of cardstock, matted with blue and added to a white card base. Here’s a tip when working with vellum: Be strategic about embellishments and a sentiment because its the perfect place to hide some adhesive under the vellum. I added a few dots of glue behind the rhinestones and sentiment to attach the butterfly. (I’m sneaky like that!)

Blog hopping and celebrating this new release from Lil' Inker is so much fun! Remember there's one more day, so stop back tomorrow - and don't forget to check out ALL the blogs on the hop. Plus, if you comment along the way you'll be eligible to WIN the entire new release! (Comments close at 11:30pm on May 19, 2019.)
