Hello crafty card-making friends! Do your handmade cards and paper crafts have depth and personality or are they feeling flat? Layering stamped images and die cut shapes on handmade cards will add life and interest to your crafts. Today I'm going to show you three Easter card ideas with stamps and dies that are layered together to bring springtime to life!
Layering adds big impact on this first card, which features stamps from the Silly Goose stamp set from FSJ. Are those tiny stamped chicks CUTE or what? They're darling on their own, but tucked into the die cut grass gives the whole scene a little extra sweetness. The grass die is actually half this size, but I die cut it twice and hid the seam under the mama goose's nest. (I'm sneaky like that.) Stamping the mama goose and tucking her into the nest with her baby, there's some more simple layering that makes this scene come together.
One more aspect of layering on this card is the sunshine and rays. The Sun Rays die was die cut from printed paper. (It's like the sun rays have sun rays...see what I did there?) And although this die has a great little circular sun, I really wanted some extra POP so I added the two layers of the My Sunshine die. It really adds a little something extra to the scene, plus it gave me a landing spot for my sentiment. Don't forget to add some foam squares for added dimension when layering up all your goodies - the nest, mama goose, and sunshine all got some extra height to add power to this card.
Next up, an Easter card featuring one of the sweetest stamp companies out there. Lil' Inker Designs has LONG been a favorite of mine, and their stitched dies are just the absolute best. On the base of this card, I layered up some die cut squares. Then I diecut a background of sweet eyelet flowers but I trimmed just a strip of it to layer on. I love the way the underneath colors pop through.
When using background dies, think about how you want your colors to interact in the negative spaces. A background die like this can add a lot of busyness or a simple subtle pattern depending on how you use it.
And speaking of layering -the stars of the show - the bunnies!! This die set includes both bunnies and their sweet bows to LAYER together. I get excited about Easter cards when I pull these bunny dies out each year.
Tucking a sentiment behind the die cut shapes is another way to add some layers to this card. And have you noticed, with all these shapes, patterns and layers - there's been very little need for lots of embellishments. Paper is POWER in these sweet Easter cards!
Last but not least, because this one might be my favorite. You'll see elements from both cards above, in this one. This might be the ultimate in die cut layering. The only stamping is the sentiment. You'll see the grass die, but only die cut once this time, and the same sunshine and bunny.Plus, do you remember what I said about the difference between subtle and busy when using a die cut background? I used the other half of the eyelet background on this card, but the look is very different and much more subtle when attached to the same color background. That's versatility!
There's something satisfying about making a few coordinating cards in matching colors and styles. I like looking at them together. (Is that weird?) When we layer stamped and die cut images together to create a scene, we are really making our products WORK for us. On today's projects I combined products from a few different companies - and it was such a jumpstart to my creativity. Don't be afraid to pull out different products and mix and match for extra crafty power!
