Have You Seen Impression Obsession's May Limited Edition Stamp Set?

Did you know that Impression Obsession has begun a new monthly limited edition red rubber stamp set? This month features the sweetest hummingbird and hibiscus stamps, and I am so happy to share it with you today!

This blog post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links I receive compensation at no cost to you. Thank you from the bottom of my crafty heart!

I decided to go bright and bold on today's hummingbird cards. This stamp set is a lot of fun, because whether your style is clean and simple, layered, traditional, if you like to color or you don't. . . .there's something here for everyone.
Today's cards came together quite simply. To create this look, start out with white cardstock and a black ink pad to create the floral backgrounds. The hibiscus look beautiful colored, or stamped in colorful ink - but I was going for bold, clean and simple here.

To make the hummingbirds, I stamped them onto some watercolor paper that I had previously covered in liquid dye ink. (Jane Davenport Inkredible Inks at Spellbinders) Since the watercolor paper has texture, I suggest using a MISTI or stamping platform to really get nice impressions on the paper. I fussy cut the hummingbirds, but there is also a coordinating die available to make the cutting quick and simple.

There are a few GREAT things about IO's new limited edition stamp kits.

  • There are no commitments or clubs to join. (Although I think you'll love the stamps every single month!)
  • There are coordinating dies offered.
  • Each month's stamps come in clamshell packaging and include full color inspiration.
If you love red rubber stamps, this is a fun way to grab a new limited edition set each month. But don't hesitate because at the end of the month, the stamp set retires to make way for a new monthly kit.

This week the Impression Obsession design team is celebrating the May limited edition kit with a weeklong blog hop.

Here are the important details on the May Celebration:

  • Check the Impression Obsession blog each day May 4-11th for links to NEW inspiration featuring the May stamps.  THREE lucky winners will be chosen from the comments to win an Impression Obsession $25 gift certificates - so the more you comment through our Release Celebration the more chances to win!
  • All comments (for each of the event days) will be open until Tuesday May 16th at 8pm CT. All winners will be announced on May 17th on the Impression Obsession Blog.

There's no need to fear spiders today! The adorable Spider Trio on today's handmade Halloween card is friendly, funny - and fun to craft with! I'll admit, the first thing I'd think if I looked at this card is "Who wants to cut out all those spiders? They're cute but . . . ." Not to fear - this super cute spider stamp set has a coordinating die set that is really easy to work with. Stamp your spiders and then pop the coordinating die on top and cut them out in a snap!

I'm always about COLORFUL handmade Halloween cards, so I wanted to give these stamped and die-cut spiders a fun place to land. I started with a sheet of watercolor paper and added a bit of water plus Jane Davenport Inkredible Inks - they're liquid dye inks that react with water. . .lots of fun to experiment with. I just layered and blended the colors together and let it dry for a bit. Next I gathered up some white twine for the spider web, and popped the spiders on top with foam squares.

5 Colorful Ways to Add Watercolor to Handmade Cards

Do you like to add watercolor to your handmade cards? Or does it stress you out because it feels messy and unpredictable? Today I'm going to challenge you to take a risk, and add a splash, splatter or streak of bold, beautiful watercolor to your card making and paper crafts. I'll show you three simple products that have become some of my favorite ways to watercolor,  and I'll show you different ways to use each one.

This blog post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links I receive compensation at no cost to you. Thank you from the bottom of my crafty heart!

The three products that might just change your opinion about watercolor are all from Jane Davenport: Inkredible Inks, watercolor tins, and Mermaid Markers. And if you're already a watercolor fan - you are in for a TREAT if you aren't familiar with these products; they may just become new favorites!

Hey there my crafty peeps, how are you today? I am completely in love with my new little watercolor tins and I am watercoloring all of the things lately. Today, I have a fun little rainbow idea to share with you, featuring the Magical Unicorn stamps from FSJ + Spellbinders. You can use this idea with whatever type of watercolor medium you have - even liquid dye inks. Are you ready to take a look with me?

Watercolor Set

First up, let's take a look at the watercolor tins. This is probably the most familiar type of watercolor. We all used Crayola watercolor paint sets in elementary school, so this style might feel less intimidating.
  • The color is exceptionally rich and vivid
  • Highly concentrated: A little bit of paint goes a long way.
  • The tins are adorable!
  • The colors mix and blend beautifully for unlimited possibilities
  • There are three color families: Brights, Glitz-Sea, and Neutrals
Use these paints in a traditional way, with a brush and loosely paint a stamped image, like in the Plant Lady card below. Or get a little crazy with these and make a rainbow puddle of colors, like in the card above. To create that background, mist a sheet of cardstock with water, and then lay colors down with a brush, allowing them to mix and blend just a bit. Bonus points for this technique: You'll never create exactly the same look twice!

Mermaid Markers

The next two types of watercolors are liquid. Mermaid Markers might look like regular markers at first glance, but loaded with highly pigmented liquid color and capped with a brush tip, they are so much more. You can brush color straight onto a project, but I recommend pairing it with water to dilute because once again, a little goes a long way!

To create the color wash on the polar bear card below, mist watercolor paper with water (much like the unicorn card above) and then drip the slightest bit of Mermaid Marker onto the paper. It will immediately bleed and blend with the water. Tip the cardstock to move the color around and add more color as desired. You could add a drop of other colors too.

One of my favorite techniques with all of the watercolors is to add a splatter of Sparkle Silk while the watercolor is still wet. Spellbinders Silks will interact with the water and add fun bursts of color or sparkle onto the paper. On the polar bear card, you can see some spots where the Silk actually caused circle spots that resisted the blue. It also adds a glittery shimmer that spreads when wet, but looks more like a paint splatter when it hits dry paper.

Inkredible Inks

Man, these might be my favorite of today's watercolor wonderland. Jane's Inkredible Inks are liquid dye-based inks in bottles, that come in 12 gorgeous shades. The colors are so vivid and cheerful that I just can't resist them. Use them straight from the bottle, dilute with water, put them in a spritz bottle - you can't go wrong with these lovelies.

My favorite way to use Inkredible Inks is to create sheets of vibrant color to die cut. This project begins similar to others: mist a sheet of watercolor paper. Then add a drop of color and watch what happens. These inks interact with water, and you'll have fun experimenting. Let color dry halfway, and then add drops of water on top, or spritz with water. Let colors mix and blend. And of course, splatter with Sparkle Silk.

I like to focus on one color family per sheet, pinks and purples, blues, greens etc. That way I have a whole sheet I can cut green leaves from or purple/pink flowers from. Below you'll see a few of the sheets I made, and then the card I created once the papers were dry and I die cut them.

Which Is Your Favorite?

All three options of watercolor: dry watercolor sets, Mermaid Markers, and Inkredible Inks in a bottle, are exceptional quality, incredibly vibrant and concentrated colors, and have plenty of opportunities for play and experimentation. Right now is the BEST time to try some of these, because all of Jane Davenport's collections, (including her inks, paint, stamps, pastels, and more) are part of a pretty amazing sale right now, where you'll grab deals at LEAST 60% off!
For the background stripe on this card, I started with a piece of watercolor paper. Next, I loosely spread some water onto it, and then I dripped and spread Jane Davenport Inkredible Inks onto it. I love the way the colors blend and spread and make magic every time. After the panel dried, the rest of the card was easy peasy! I put together some of the images, added a little more color and assembled it for a fresh springy card.
Here's one more Inkredible Ink card. I created the background, and then colored the leaves and flower's center with a paintbrush. Find more details about this card HERE

The Jane Davenport Sale lasts through October 3, 2021. I hope you'll check it out because it's really the BEST deal you'll find on these awesome watercolors - plus lots more! Before you go, what questions do you have about watercolor? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

This card came together easily with some "messy watercoloring". To create this card, start by stamping lemons (or whatever stamp you'd like) across a panel of white cardstock. Next, pull out some watercolors and just loosely color over the images and background.

Here's the thing about watercolor - if you're like me, and you try and make it all perfectly in the lines, neat and tidy . . .it will NOT work, and it will look like a disaster. BUT if you purposely set out for the loose and messy look, it will be fun and simple! (And I LOVE fun and simple.)

I like to party if by party you mean stay home and paint. How absolutely adorable is that sentiment? This stamp is part of the February release at Impression Obsession, along with some other darling crafty/artsy images and sentiments.

Today the design team at IO is celebrating this month's release with a Favorites blog hop where we're sharing our favorite project from the release. I have a LOT of favorites for this month, but today we'll look at this fun watercolor card.

Simple stamping and puddles of watercolor are all your need to make this fun cardmaking idea with stamps from Impression Obsession.
To begin this card, I stamped the watercolor palette and brush (it's all one large stamp - so cool, right?) onto watercolor paper. I used my MISTI for this so I could get a nice dark impression even on the textured paper. (I'm fairly new to the MISTI, but that's one of my favorite uses for it so far - being able to restamp in the same spot for a really inky impression.)

After I stamped the image, I just had a whole lot of fun with watercolor. I used my favorite watercolor tin and loosely painted the sections of the palette and then added some colorful spots of color all over the card. I finished it off with a splatter of Sparkle Silk.

A stamped sentiment and a little scrap of patterned paper finished off the card - this card was so simple and fun to create. (Which I'd like to add, PROVES the statement - that staying home and painting IS my kind of party!)
