Sending You a Big SQUEEZE {Lemon Love!}

Today I have a fresh summer handmade card to share, filled with lemony goodness, as we hold on to the final weeks of summer vacation!

This blog post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links I receive compensation at no cost to you. Thank you from the bottom of my crafty heart!

This card came together easily with some "messy watercoloring". To create this card, start by stamping lemons (or whatever stamp you'd like) across a panel of white cardstock. Next, pull out some watercolors and just loosely color over the images and background.

Here's the thing about watercolor - if you're like me, and you try and make it all perfectly in the lines, neat and tidy . . .it will NOT work, and it will look like a disaster. BUT if you purposely set out for the loose and messy look, it will be fun and simple! (And I LOVE fun and simple.)

It's Old is New Day on the Impression Obsession blog. That's the day we pull out some of our best loved stamps and dies - the ones that aren't brand new, and give them some love. What could be more perfect as we finish out the month of July, than some sweet and sour lemons to brighten the day!

Be sure to head on over to the Impression Obsession blog where you'll find links to all the designers participating in Old is New Day. I can't wait to see what they've created.

 The sentiments on today's cards are from the She Positives stamp set from Impression Obsession and they're some of my favorites! The set also includes: With moxie she lives, and With courage she did it anyway.

If you're sitting down to make a card, I challenge you - make TWO cards with those supplies. Today's projects are an example of that. I already had all of the stamps and supplies out, so it was easy peasy to make TWO.

I began this card with a sheet of watercolor paper. I misted it with water and then began adding drops of liquid dye ink (I absolutely love Jane Davenport's Inkredible Inks for this technique.) The inks bleed and blend together and I just had fun letting the ink do it's thing. In the end, I had a sheet with shades of greens and teal. I let it dry completely and then I stamped the flower and branch images right on top of all those beautifully blended colors.

(TIP: Never have luck stamping on textured watercolor paper? Use the MISTI! It's the perfect tool for that because you can repeat stamp the image to get dark, even coverage.)

Once the images were stamped and fussy cut, I had lots of floral bits and pieces, which is what actually inspired me to make two coordinating cards. I even already had the scalloped die cut circle from a previous project, so that helped guide my colors and design.

A large heart from the floral stamp set because the focal point for my second card. The Wild Rose Heart stamp set is a clear photopolymer set and it's on clearance right now. Once it's gone, it's GONE so at 50% off, now is the time to grab it!

The next time you have some stamped images and a sentiment but you're not sure how to tie it all together, try some die cut circles. The circles on this card added the perfect pops of color, plus some extra interest without being distracting. The circles give a resting place and ground the images without looking like TOO MUCH. Today is Old is New Day on the Impression Obsession blog. It's the day we celebrate all the oldies-but-goodies in our stamp and die stash. This Zinnia stamp is one of the first stamps I got from Impression Obsession. Isn't it such a lovely, timeless image?

For today's card, I stamped the Zinnia on pink cardstock. Here's a TIP: If you don't want to spend a ton of time coloring, stamp onto colored cardstock instead of white! Then add some loose coloring on top for detail. You could also spend a lot of time coloring this image to make it extremely detailed (which would be GORGEOUS) but for this card, I decided loose and scribbly was what I wanted.

Old is New day on the IO blog is such a fun day because it encourages me to pull out some of the oldies-but-goodies in my stamp stash. I absolutely love today's stamp - it's called Nordic Town, designed by Lindsay Ostrom. This cozy stamp can be used in a variety of ways, but clean and simple is the name of the game today!

To begin this card, start with an aqua card base (always a go-to favorite of mine!) Then add a layer of white cardstock and create a snowy background with a die or embossing folder. I die cut this fun Snowfall Die background which creates a subtle but dimensional background, and I love how the aqua cardstock shows through. Next, I simply stamped and fussy cut the Nordic Town. To ground the stamped image, I added a stripe of corrugated cardstock, and a twine bow. Then I finished off the card with a thankful sentiment.  (The Holiday Words sentiment stamp set is so dang cute and perfect for fall and winter holiday cards! I use it over and over again!)
