How to Make a Christmas Snow Globe Shaker Card

Today's snow globe shaker card is festive and fun for Christmas and winter themed cards - and best yet, it's super simple to make with supplies you likely have in your stash already!

Snow Globe Supplies:

You'll need two important things to make a snow globe shaker card: a circle die, and some sort of clear plastic or acetate.

Circle die: Choose one that's appropriate to the size of your card, and however large of a scene you want to create "inside" of it.

Plastic sheet: Don't have an acetate sheet? Think about some recycled packaging that's laying around. Cut a piece that's slightly larger than the circle you'll use.

Step by Step to create this card:

  • Fold a pale blue card base to be the bottom layer of your card.
  • Cut a teal card-sized panel and die cut a circle from the center of it. (Position it to leave room for the snow globe base, sentiment etc.)
  • Add a piece of clear acetate behind the teal cardstock.
  • Die cut the same circle die from kraft cardstock and trim top and bottom off to create the snow globe base. Adhere to card front.
  • Create scene on pale blue card base with stamps and dies. Line up the acetate circle with the card base to position images properly so they'll fit "inside" the circle. Once completed, carefully pour a little pile of sequins or confetti - whatever you want your shaker filling to be.
  • On the back of the teal cardstock, surround the cut circle with foam adhesive. This will create "walls" for sequins or confetti when the card is sealed together. Peel off adhesive backing, line up teal card front on top of card base and carefully adhere together. This will sandwich the shaker filling inside of your snow globe!
  • Add sentiment and decorate the rest of the card as desired.
Is this the only way to create a shaker card? No. But this is the method that works well for me! There are many companies who make adorable snow globe themed products, but this is a simple way to make it with supplies that you likely already have!

Six Simple Thank You Cards With Patterned Background Dies {Spellbinders Paper Arts}

Card-sized background dies are a powerhouse craft supply to have in your paper crafting stash. Today I'll show you SIX different ways to make a thank you card with just a background die and a simple sentiment. (Plus, maybe just a circle die or two.) Think about how you can use the background dies and simple sentiments already in your stash, to make these ideas your own!

This blog post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links I receive compensation at no cost to you. Thank you from the bottom of my crafty heart!

Monochromatic Background With a POP of Shine:

First, let's start with a simple monochromatic look. Die cut the Super Stripes background from dark pink, and layer it onto a light pink background. For maximum dimension and shine on your sentiment, die cut it from multiple layers of cardstock (or a layer of black foam) and add dimensional glaze on top.

Negative Space Stripes:

Next, die cut the background from multiple colors and just use the negative pieces as stripes. Here's a tip: To make it simple, lay the outer piece on top of the cardstock panel like a template, (with a little piece of washi) and glue the pieces into the open spots. Then, lift the outer piece and you've got perfectly placed stripes.  If your sentiment looks like it'll get lost on a busy background, add some die-cut vellum to showcase your focal point.

Negative Space Sentiment:

Remember that shiny thank you on today's first card? I cut it from black foam - and then used the negative leftover piece to make this large circle. Think about how you can use the negative space left from your sentiment dies!

Background Stripes:

Next, let's look at three ways to use the Pennant Background Die. The first card uses the outline of the die, with strips of cardstock behind it for a striped effect.

Negative Space Pennants:

Remember my tip for the Negative Space Stripes card above? Here's the same technique with the pennant die. Use the outer piece as a template, and glue the pieces inside like you're doing a puzzle. Then, lift the outer piece out for perfectly placed triangles.

Shaker Card:

And last but NOT least...a shaker card! Add a sheet of acetate behind the die cut panel, pop it up on foam adhesive and add some sequins for a super festive thank you card.

Do you have background dies in your collection that would work with these ideas? Try them out and make these card ideas your own! And if you want to grab any of these goodies - catch them now during the Spellbinders Spring Cleaning Warehouse Sale at great prices!

Hey Chick! How About This Springtime Card With a Shaker Tag?

Today's cards feature fresh flowers and adorable chicks, popping up just in time for springtime.  It's Day 2 of Impression Obsession's new release hop, and spring is definitely in the air! Plus, if you loved yesterday's shaker tag card, today I've got another shaker idea with sweet pastel sequins. Ready to chick it out?

This blog post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links I receive compensation at no cost to you. Thank you from the bottom of my crafty heart!

Today's cards show two different ways to color these cute chickies. Love to paper-piece? This chick looks great trimmed from cardstock. Feel like coloring? Try watercolor, pencils, or markers to bring your chickies some color.
In yesterday's post I shared directions for assembling the Shaker Tag die as a shaker. (You can totally use the pieces as regular tags too!)
  • To make this shaker, cut the solid tag from pink cardstock, and acetate.
  • Then cut the window tag from white cardstock, and from white foam. (Or you can use thin strips of adhesive foam tape instead of a foam sheet.)
  • Assemble the tag from front to back - white window tag, acetate layer, then foam. Next, fill the open space with sequins, and seal it together with the solid white tag.
It's Day 2 of our blog hop and we're having so much fun sharing this month's new release at Impression Obsession! If you missed yesterday's post (with more shaker tag inspiration) check it out HERE.

Make an Easter Bunny Shaker Card! {New from Impression Obsession}

There's not much more fun than a SHAKER CARD! This sweet and springy Easter shaker card is shaped like an egg, and features the sweetest stamped bunnies from Impression Obsession. Let's take a look and I'll show you just how to create it yourself!

The Inside Out Arch die is such a great shape on its own - but two of them paired up make a perfect egg!
  • Start by cutting out the arch towards the top of a panel of cardstock. This will become the shaker part.
  • Then die cut it again from pink cardstock (or the springy color of your choice!)
  • Stamp a sentiment and adhere the pink arch to your cardstock panel.
  • Add a piece of clear acetate behind the open area, and use a foam sheet or foam tape to add the dimension you need, filling your shaker with sequins.
Looking for more cute bunny ideas? Here's another sweet and simple card for springtime, a new baby, or Easter. Remember bunnies don't have to be white! These kraft colored bunnies are adorable too!

I Can't Stop With These New Leaf Dies from Impression Obsession!

Can you beLEAF it's day two of Impression Obsession's October release blog hop?! I told you I can't stop with the new Simple Leaves dies, and today I've paired them with the punny clear stamps, called Leaf Sayings, to make a fun fall shaker card!

This blog post contains affiliate links. When you make purchases through my links I receive compensation at no cost to you. Thank you from the bottom of my crafty heart!
When you order a new die set, the pieces often come attached together. They can be easily snipped apart with wire snips or scissors, but sometimes I like to keep them attached together if it's just a few pieces like this set of three fall leaves. It made creating this shaker card simple, because I just left the dies attached, and ran it through the machine one time. For today's card we're using the negative space left over from the leaves as our shaker card openings.

To assemble a shaker card, add a piece of clear acetate behind the openings. Then, surround the open areas with foam tape. (I just created one large area - not a separate shaker for each leaf.) Last, fill the space with sequins and add the back panel of cardstock to sandwich it all together.
Today is day 2 of our two-day blog hop, celebrating the October release at Impression Obsession. If you missed yesterday's cards, head over to check them out HERE!

Make an Easy Shaker Card With a Frame Die {Impression Obsession}

Have I mentioned that I'm really happy to be making VALENTINE cards instead of Christmas cards? I love the winter holiday colors, but I gotta tell you - I'm glad to be moving on.

There's something pretty fun about a Valentine shaker card filled with hearts and sequins rattling around so let's take a look at today's first card idea, shall we?
This blog post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links, I may receive compensation at no cost to you. Thank you from the bottom of my crafty heart!

Shaker cards can be a little intimidating, a little complicated and quite frankly, a little frustrating to make. BUT I have a secret weapon for you today. This die, called the Mid-Size Frame from Impression Obsession makes it so simple to make a shaker card. The frame is wide enough for foam tape so there's no trimming little bits of tape. Here are the steps if you want to try this out:
  • Die-cut Mid-Size Frame from cardstock.
  • Trim a piece of acetate (clear plastic) around the same size as the outer edges. Adhere the acetate to the underneath side of the frame.
  • Next, cover underneath side of frame with foam tape or foam squares. If you're using something tiny like glitter, be sure you don't leave any openings where the filling can escape.
  • Pile sequins and die-cut hearts onto the card base and then sandwich acetate/frame on top, sealing in the sparkly goodies.
There are other ways to make a shaker card, but that's how I made this one.
Before I send you on your merry way, here's one more card made with the same supplies - the Mid-Size Frame die and the Love Words dies. This one has no shaker element, but you can see how simple and striking this frame die is. It has great stitched details, and I love that it includes stitching even on the center rectangle. I know you'll use that die even on it's own! (And did you notice, this card was created with the opposite pieces of the first card. I die cut the frame in aqua and then pink and used the opposite pieces on each card.)
Today's post is part of Impression Obsession's Die Cut Obsession. The design team is sharing die cutting magic today, so head over to the IO blog to see  links for everyone participating. I can't wait to see what they've each created for today! And be sure to stop at the IO shop for these fun new dies plus all kinds of spring and Valentine goodness for your craft projects. Thanks so much for stopping by today! xoxo

How to Make Adorable Snowy Scenes and Shaker Cards for Christmas

Aqua and red are (in my humble crafty opinion) the MOST perfect colors for cardmaking and crafts all year long.
Valentines? Yes please - especially with a pop of pink!
Spring and summer florals? Perfect!
4th of July? Red white and aqua blue!
Fall? Just mix in some yellow or orange.
And winter? Oh yes, winter. Winter allows the aqua snowy scenes and festive reds to make their magic. Today, let's look at two Christmas cardmaking ideas using aqua and red - one has some fun coloring and stencils, and the other is a SHAKER CARD!

First up, a snowy scene! I love the subtle aqua dots in the background.
To create this look:
  • Sponge aqua ink gently onto a white cardstock panel, starting from the center and then blending out.
  • Next, lay a stencil on top. (I used the Bubble Bubble stencil from FSJ.)
  • Using the same color, sponge ink over the top to layer "snowflakes" over the inky area.
This blog post contains affiliate links - when you shop through my links, I may receive compensation at no cost to you. Thank you from the bottom of my crafty heart!

I colored these snowy friends with colored pencils, sticking to my color scheme of shades of aqua and red, plus a pop of green. I brought the scene together with a die-cut snowy hill, simple sentiment strip plus a few adorable heart stickers.
The next card for today is a SHAKER CARD! Shaker cards take a little extra time and attention to detail (or you'll find your shaker goodies shaking all over the floor!) They are such fun and worth your time though! This shaker card starts with some die-cut circles. Here are the simple steps to try it yourself:

  • Die cut two identical circles of cardstock. (The aqua and the darker teal on this card.)
  • Choose the next smallest circle die to cut out the center of the teal circle. You can actually do this in one step by laying two concentric circle dies down on the cardstock, tape in place and then run through the machine at one time. You'll use the outer "ring" you've created.
  • Die cut one more large circle from clear acetate. Adhere that to the backside of the "ring." That's your window!
  • Use small pieces of foam tape or foam squares around the back of the ring, leaving no space opened - especially if you plan to put glitter in your shaker.
  • Pour sequins, glitter etc onto the center of the acetate and then remove the sticky backing of the foam.
  • Sandwich the aqua circle on top (which is really the back) and seal shut. Then adhere your shaker element to the card base.

I loved creating a Christmas tree scene over the top of my shaker element. It was quick and easy using the Whimsy Woods die set from Fun Stampers Journey. Super fun, right?!
I'm so grateful you stopped by today. There's still time to do some Christmas craftiness, so put on some holiday tunes, don't worry about the dishes in the sink, and go make something festive and fun!
