Handmade Card Ideas for Moms, Especially on Mother's Day!

Today's handmade cards are in honor of all the MOMS in our lives! The stamps and dies I used are all from Impression Obsession, and they'll be perfect for Mother's Day cards, plus cards for mom throughout the year!

Today's cards would obviously be appropriate for Mother's Day, but there are lots of ways to use this adorable MOM die set for cards at any time of year. Take this first card for example - this might be a thank you card after Mom watched your kids for the weekend, or did your laundry while you were at home. Or change up that sentiment strip to say Happy Birthday, and you have an awesome personalized birthday card for Mom. BUT, it would also be perfect for a Mother's Day card too!
For the first card today, I used one of my favorite floral stamp sets to add some simple black and white stamped flowers. Then, I added the die cut MOM and sentiment strip on top. I love that this die cuts out the thin outline as well as the letters - use both pieces, or just one. And as you might have noticed, I die cut the word twice, once from pink and once from black, and used the reverse for my second card.

Speaking of my second card. . .

Same idea, with a floral background behind the letters, but this time I die cut the flowers - but again, notice how I mixed and matched. A couple quick passes with a patterned paper and a cardstock, and I was able to create lots of coordinating flowers easily. And that black outline around MOM helps the sentiment to stand out and not get lost with all the busy flowers.

Whether you're a mom, celebrating a mom, missing a mom, want to be a mom, or maybe all of the above - I hope you have a beautiful day today! I'm so glad you stopped by! xoxo

I love using the Magic Mat from scrapbook.com with my die cutting machine, because it alleviates those pesky cutting lines on the underneath side of die cut shapes. You know, the ones from your best used cutting plates?

I am absolutely in love with this lovely rose stamp, and the way the colors on this card came together. Switch up the sentiment, and this card could easily be for any occasion from birthday to sympathy. To create this look, stamp the roses onto both coral and aqua cardstocks, and then trim and layer the pieces together.
Next up, a large square shaped card. Again, this image is perfect to send a HUGE heart to Mom . . .but switch out the sentiment for all kinds of cards to send your love. I paper-pieced the large heart with patterned paper, but then I used watercolor pencils to shade in the rest of the image. And that sentiment? So cute and funny!

Lastly, a sweet slimline card with adorable paper-pieced birdies. Aren't these chickies darling? I paper pieced them, and then added some details using a white gel pen.

Today's die set is called Mother's Day Flowers, but they're perfect for so much more. For both of today's cards, I die cut this sweet flower die set from a couple of colors and then mixed and matched the flowers and their centers. The first card has pink flowers with red centers, and then the reverse for my second card. I love to die cut once and make cards twice!

With little bits of this and that on your desk, it's fun to just layer scraps and play with shapes. A simple stamped sentiment was all this cheerful encouragement card needed after I pulled together these fun colors and shapes.

It's a Messy Bun Kinda Day {Check out this Cute Colorful Card!}

Let's hear it for the mamas! And the aunties and grandmas and mom's-best-friend-who's-like-a-mom. How about the foster moms, the adoptive moms (literally and figuratively) and don't forget the dads who are doing their best to be a dad AND a mom. Plus those who WANT to be a mama, or are waiting and trying to become a mama. Let's celebrate them all this Mother's Day, because they each bring something unique and special and loved to our world.

Today's card gives a shout out to the moms in the trenches . . . .the laundry, the baby spit up, the coffee in hand, and haven't had a shower in DAYS moms. You know who they are - and if they have time to look at the mail, they would LOVE a card made just for them.

To celebrate those messy bun kinda days, I made a slightly messy card. Let's take a look at how to make this fun, colorful background. The photo below shows a similar background. It's just lots of scribbles and doodles and some layering of color, using Jane Davenport Colorsticks. (Pastels or Gelatos would work beautifully for this technique too.) Because the Colorsticks are water soluble, after I did some serious doodling, I brushed over it with just a bit of water to blend things together a bit.
This technique is your chance to just get crazy! If you love this, I suggest doing an entire 8.5x11 sheet and then cut it (or tear it) into pieces for multiple cards. Every one will be a bit different! Such fun!
After I trimmed this colorful piece down to size (did you notice I tore the bottom edge?) I layered a thin stripe of black and white striped paper and a piece of scalloped washi tape. Then, I added my stamped image and sentiment. Messy and cute, yes? (Just like those poor mamas, falling asleep in a pile of laundry.)

Funny Handmade Cards To Make Mom Laugh

Are you looking for some funny sentiments that feel especially perfect on handmade cards for moms and wives? Today's cards are fun to send as encouragement to your mama friends who are deep in the trenches of motherhood (and/or quarantine!) Plus, they'd be super fun for handmade Mother's Day cards too! I combined two fun stamp sets plus a polka dotty background stamp for today's cards. Ready for a giggle at today's projects?

The sentiments in Impression Obsession's Mom Life stamp set are SUCH fun. Maybe I love them because they speak so much truth in my life! I paired these typewriter-font sentiments with the cute images from Nola Chandler's #momlife stamp set and I love them together. Because I have a bold colorful background, I didn't color these images. I always love a pop of black and white!

This mama with her pile of laundry and coffee cup really speak to me! Haha! And that sentiment - I don't think she's asking too much, is she?

All of the sentiments in this stamp set are just as fun and will speak to any mom in your life! Today's blog post is part of the latest challenge on the Impression Obsession blog, and the theme is FUNNY CARDS. The IO design team pulled out our favorite puns and silly sentiments, or paired up an unexpected image with a sentiment to make a card that makes you giggle!
And now, my crafty mamas (and papas), it's YOUR TURN. Dig through your stash of Impression Obsession stamps and dies, and see what you have that works for the FUNNY CARDS challenge. Then link it up at the IO blog because you might just win a gift certificate to the shop! Over on the blog, you'll also find a list of the design team members who are sharing some funny cards to kick off the challenge.

Sending Hugs Clean and Simple Floral Card Idea {Lil' Inker Designs}

Hello friends! How about a clean and simple handmade card to send hugs to someone special? Today's card is easy to mass-produce, and it's perfect for any occasion that hugs are necessary. I created this card with Mother's Day in mind - but really, it's perfect all year long. A friend needs encouragement? Send them crafty hugs. A friend lost someone they love? Send them crafty hugs. It's the end of the school year and your teacher pal is at the end of her rope? Send her crafty hugs (and coffee.) It's time to tell your mom, aunt, sister, friend that you love her? SEND HER CRAFTY HUGS. Are you with me? All. Year. Long.
I purposely kept this card flat and ready for mailing, so I kept the layers and embellishments minimal. Want to recreate this? It'll work with most of your floral stamp sets, and it's a fun layout to play with. (Or at the end of this post, I'll link up the ABSOLUTELY adorable stamps I used from Lil' Inker Designs, because you might need them yourself!) ;)
First, fold a couple of white card bases. Then use a sponge dauber to gently ink some light blue ink across the center of the card. (I used Cool Pool from FSJ.)
Next, stamp some flowers in whatever colors you love and detail cut or die-cut them. Whenever I don't have dies for something, I like to cut while I'm watching TV or sitting in the school car-line. I don't mind cutting, and I weirdly sort of like it. I recommend stamping and cutting for however many cards you plan to make all at once and get those jobs done for the whole card set. This is a good time to stamp and cut a large sentiment word. (Or you might have a die-cut word that would be perfect!)
Then, stamp lines across the lower portion of the card. These stripes are from the Cozy Plaid stamp set, but if you don't have this, think about what stripey stamps you might have - or grab a ruler and draw your own! (You could also use a strip of patterned paper or cardstock.)
Last, assemble everything together. Lay out your flowers, and cut sentiment. I stamped the word "Sending" right onto my card. I used foam tape for the word "hugs" but everything else is glued right to my card base. A few simple sequins and a splatter of FSJ Silk finished off the card.

Card Supplies from Lil' Inker Designs:
Cozy Plaid Stamp Set
Fall Foliage Stamp Set
Fall Foliage Coordinating Dies (I actually trimmed them because I had time to kill in the car-line, but I wanted you to know there ARE coordinating dies for this set!)

Other Supplies from FSJ:
Blue Skies Sequins
Cardstock: Cool Pool, Watermelon Fusion, Bubble Gum, Haystack
Sponge Daubers
Cool Pool Ink
Scoring Board (to make coordinating envelopes)

Also, be sure to come back on Monday because Lil Inker Designs is celebrating a NEW release full of summertime beauties. You are going to LOVE it. (I know so, because I already love it!) Join us next week for a three-day blog hop and lots of fun!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you're inspired by this clean and simple card that you can make for almost any occasion all year long. Change up the colors, and sentiments to suit your needs. They'd make a great card set to gift to a friend too! Have a beautiful day! xoxo
